Dr. Wayne Lam graduated from King’s College London in the United Kingdom, holds a postgraduate degree with Distinction from University College London, and completed fellowship training in advanced complex reconstructive urology at St George’s University Hospital. He previously served as a Consultant Urologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London before joining the University of Hong Kong in 2017 as a Clinical Assistant Professor.
In his clinical practice, Dr. Lam specializes in complex genito-urethral and robotic surgeries—having been clinically responsible for establishing the programs for robotic ureteroplasty with buccal mucosa grafts, organ-preserving surgery using skin graft reconstruction for penile cancer, and minimally invasive dynamic sentinel lymph node biopsy for penile cancer whilst at the University of Hong Kong. His clinical scope encompasses the management of both male and female urinary incontinence, as well as prosthetic surgery for male patients presenting with severe erectile dysfunction. His oncological focus includes robotic surgeries for prostate, kidney, and bladder cancers, alongside transperineal MRI-ultrasound fusion targeted prostate biopsies. For benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), his practice utilizes Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), and minimally-invasive surgical treatments including Rezum 'water vapour' surgery.
Academically, Dr. Lam has published research papers in peer-reviewed international urological journals and serves on urological editorial boards, and research and guidelines committees. He is routinely an invited speaker and live surgical demonstrator at international conferences. He actively contributes to professional medical education as an international clinical proctor and has served as a course organizer and director for dedicated urological surgical masterclasses training practicing urologists locally and internationally.
